Sports Index Decline

The sports index recorded a decrease of 4.3% in the first nine months of the year. Among the sports clubs traded on the Borsa Istanbul, Fenerbahçe was the top performer, with its shares rising by 23.4%, making it the sports company that provided the highest returns to its investors during this period.

Fenerbahçe’s Strategic Moves

During the current transfer period, the yellow-navy team made effective transfers in addition to a change in coaching staff. Fenerbahçe made the most notable move when selecting a new head coach.

Coaching Change

After finishing the previous season without a trophy under İsmail Kartal’s management, the yellow-navy team decided to enter the new season with an important figure.

Fenerbahçe’s management appointed the world-renowned Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho to fill the vacant head coach position left by İsmail Kartal.

The famous Portuguese coach became the 78th individual to take on this position at Fenerbahçe.

Election Results

During the Fenerbahçe Club’s Ordinary General Assembly with a Selection, Ali Koç was elected president for the third time, receiving 16,464 of the 26,947 valid votes.

Player Sales

Recently, the club has sold players such as Josef de Souza, Guiliano, Eljif Elmas, Vedat Muriç, Kim Min-Jae, Arda Güler, and Ferdi Kadıoğlu to other clubs for high transfer fees. The sales of these players generated a total transfer fee of €137.1 million for the yellow-navy team.

Fenerbahçe recently announced the transfer of Kadıoğlu to the English Premier League team Brighton for a transfer fee of €30 million.

Galatasaray’s Performance

During this period, the shares of Galatasaray Sportif Sınai ve Ticari Yatırımlar increased by 11.4%.

Galatasaray finished the 2023-2024 season at the top of the Trendyol Super League, achieving their 24th championship.

Analysts noted that the project of relocating from the Florya Facilities to Kemerburgaz could positively impact the club’s stock price.

The yellow-red team has won their first six matches of the season, repeating the best start to a season in Super League history.

Historically, the yellow-red team achieved its best season start under Dutch coach Frank Rijkaard in the 2009-2010 season by winning all six matches, a feat they have matched this season.

Underperforming Clubs

In the first nine months of the year, Beşiktaş Futbol Yatırımları Sanayi ve Ticaret AŞ led to a loss of 40.5% for investors, while Trabzonspor Sportif Yatırım ve Futbol İşletmeciliği incurred a loss of 9.4%.

Beşiktaş disappointed its fans with poor performance during the 2023-2024 season and struggled with coaching stability last season. These factors affected Beşiktaş’s overall performance in the stock market throughout the year.

Despite a coaching change, Trabzonspor did not display encouraging performance in the Trendyol Super League this season.

The club started off with its worst league performance under Şenol Güneş, who is in his fifth term with the team.
