YASED Publishes Bulletin on International Direct Investments

Following the release of the Payments Balance Statistics by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, YASED has published its bulletin titled “International Direct Investments in Numbers.”

According to the latest official figures, the total amount of International Direct Investment (FDI) that arrived in Turkey in the first eight months of the year was recorded as 6.41 billion USD. This represents a 2% decrease compared to the same period in 2023, while the total value of FDI inflows to Turkey since 2002 has approached 270 billion USD.

In August of this year, Turkey saw an FDI inflow of 497 million USD, with 283 million USD of this amount in the form of investment capital.

Of the total FDI in August, 201 million USD came from the sale of real estate to foreign nationals, and 35 million USD was noted through borrowing instruments. Additionally, investment withdrawals during the same month had a downward effect valued at 22 million USD.

The 283 million USD of investment capital in August included a share of 16% from wholesale and retail trade, with an inflow of 46 million USD.

Manufacturing in the food, beverage, and tobacco products sector performed above its historical cumulative results, constituting 16% of the investment capital inflows during the same period.

EU Countries Account for 54% Share

From 2002 to 2023, European Union (EU) countries held a 59% share in total investment. In August, they accounted for 54% of the total. During the same month, other European countries that are not EU members became the second largest investing region in Turkey with their 16% share.

In August 2024, Germany held the largest share at 22%, followed by Switzerland at 11%, the Netherlands at 10%, the USA and France each at 9%, Luxembourg at 8%, and Taiwan at 7%.

When looking at the total of the first eight months of the year, the three countries that invested the most in Turkey were the Netherlands with a 20% share, Germany with 15%, and the USA with 13%.
