Some employees at Apple believe the company is about two years behind in developing artificial intelligence. In a new article, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg shares these employees’ perspectives while also providing insight into Apple’s AI efforts.

We previously reported that the initial features of Apple’s generative AI solution, Apple Intelligence, which was announced at WWDC 2024, are expected to roll out to devices on October 28. In addition to the Apple Intelligence features being introduced with iOS 18.1, Apple is also gaining attention for its ChatGPT integration announced at WWDC 2024. The company stated that it will support GPT-4 on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. This integration will be incorporated into Siri and also into Writing Tools. ChatGPT’s integration is expected to bridge the information gap.

According to Gurman, internal studies at Apple indicate that ChatGPT is about 25% more accurate than Siri. Furthermore, these studies show that ChatGPT can answer approximately 30% more questions compared to Siri.

Additionally, Gurman notes that some individuals at Apple believe that the generative AI technology is more than two years behind that of industry leaders. In response to these employee opinions, Gurman believes Apple will close the gap regardless. According to Gurman, Apple may either work with its own team or hire individuals and acquire necessary companies to catch up.

As Gurman reports, by 2026, Apple Intelligence will function on every device with a screen. In this context, the iPhone SE with the A18 chip is expected to launch in March, and there is a possibility that the entry-level iPad will receive an update in 2025.
