Negotiations Advanced for Chery’s Investment in Turkey

A Turkish official stated that discussions regarding Chery’s investment in Turkey have reached an advanced stage.

The official, who wished to remain anonymous, told Reuters that although Chery is in talks to establish a vehicle manufacturing plant, they did not provide details on the scale of the investment or the products that would be manufactured.

Turkey, currently one of Europe’s leading vehicle manufacturers with a production capacity of 2 million commercial and passenger vehicles, has been in talks with Chinese automotive manufacturers seeking to establish production facilities abroad for some time.

In July, Chinese automaker BYD announced plans to invest one billion dollars in Turkey to build a vehicle factory with an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles.

Most recently, Zhang Guibing, President of Chery International, met over the weekend with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of Industry Fatih Kacır.
