The Electronics Fair (EFAE), organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, continues to play a crucial role in this evolution by bringing together guests from around the world for over forty years to explore the latest electronic products, ranging from home appliances to audiovisual items, and from office innovations to cutting-edge technologies. Its sister event, electronicAsia 2024, stands out as an unmissable event for anyone looking to keep track of advancements in 5G, IoT, and automotive electronics.
Taking place from October 13 to 16, the simultaneous fairs will gather around 3,200 participants across various thematic areas, accompanied by a comprehensive panel program and interactive networking opportunities.
Smart Mobility emerges as a significant theme for investors, entrepreneurs, and governments alike. The integration of artificial intelligence and 5G connectivity is accelerating the use of autonomous vehicles, with many cities worldwide launching pilot programs. The Automotive and In-Vehicle Electronics sector will showcase technologies such as converting traditional gasoline vehicles to electric, advanced driver-assistance systems, and fast chargers for electric vehicles.
The Digital Entertainment sector allows visitors to experience the latest developments in VR and AR. The gaming industry has witnessed a surge in cloud-based gaming and immersive experiences supported by advanced VR and AR technologies over the past year, showing no signs of slowing down. The array of showcased products aims to demonstrate how real-time interactive experiences have become smoother and more impressive thanks to 5G and edge computing.
This year, the EFAE will also feature fitness and health technologies serving the “Silver Economy,” designed to meet the needs of the elderly. This sector focuses on creating products and services that enhance the quality of life, health, and independence of an aging population, increasingly important due to rising life expectancies.
Other highlights include the Tech Hall, where participants can closely examine 3D printing, IoT, robotics, smart mobility, and XR technologies; the Hall of Fame, showcasing products from famous global brands; and the Startup Zone, designed for new entrepreneurs to present their latest innovations. Participants can expect enriching experiences through additional activities such as investment matching, presentation competitions, Meet the Mentors sessions, and Startup Smart Launch, aimed at fostering growth and forging valuable connections.
TheUMS initiative provides motion radar sensors aimed at reducing energy waste, enabling LED lights to turn on when motion is detected and switch off automatically. CEO Philip Chang hopes to find potential customers and explore possible collaborations to expand the application of their sensor products through the event.
Chang stated this is their first participation in the Hong Kong EFAE, and he shared that their sensors could integrate with AI platforms to offer more user-friendly features. Potential partners will have the opportunity to examine the sensors on-site and envision how they can complement their own products.
Chang added, “For us, this is the right time to seek international customers and explore market trends and applications.”
Another participant, Deltrix, mentioned that they found opportunities for collaboration in several new industry areas thanks to the fair. Senior Marketing Manager Shan Leung commented, “EFAE provides a platform for professionals, buyers, and suppliers from various industries to meet and connect with influential people and peers. Many participants find collaboration opportunities on research projects, design competitions, and other initiatives, leading to significant professional growth and recognition.”
The smart mobility initiative Socif reported that they have established “significant collaborations” through connections made at the fair:
“EFAE not only offered us the opportunity to physically showcase at the fair, but also provided pre-scheduled business matching at the exhibition site and the ‘click2match’ online business matching platform before and after the exhibition. Through these services, we had the chance to introduce our product solutions to various industries.” Founding partners Jason Yuen and Simon Tsang will be present at their booth to connect directly with customers and explain their business solutions.
