Luxembourg-headquartered payment infrastructure provider Mangopay has named Sergi Herrero, former global director for payments and commerce partnerships at Meta, as its new CEO.
Herrero succeeds founding team member Romain Mazeries, who has held the CEO position since 2018. Mazeries is stepping down from the role this month, but will maintain a position on the board and will “continue to work closely with the company”, Mangopay says.
Founded in 2013, Mangopay offers end-to-end payments solutions to marketplaces and platforms via a programmable e-wallet solution. The company was acquired by private equity firm Advent International in 2022.
It currently claims to serve over 250 million end users and has processed more than €100 billion in transactions to date.
Mangopay describes its new CEO as “a results-focused leader who brings both payments domain expertise and proven CEO capabilities” to the role.
In his previous role at Meta, Herrero is credited with helping to launch and scale the platform’s payment and commerce capabilities.
He has also held senior executive roles at Square and BNP Paribas and served as co-CEO of global telecommunications company VEON.
