On Monday, Nvidia saw its shares reach record levels and quietly launched the new Llama-3.1-Nemotron-70B-Instruct model on the AI platform Hugging Face. The model quickly drew attention due to its extraordinary performance on benchmarking metrics.

Particularly noteworthy is the model’s ability to outperform OpenAI’s GPT-4o and Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet models, making it an instant focus of interest. According to information shared by Nvidia, the Llama-3.1-Nemotron-70B-Instruct achieved outstanding scores: 85.0 on the Arena Hard benchmark, 57.6 on AlpacaEval 2 LC, and 8.98 on GPT-4-Turbo MT-Bench. This indicates that Nvidia is excelling in AI language comprehension and generation.

Nvidia enhanced the Llama-3.1-Nemotron-70B-Instruct model using advanced training techniques on Meta’s open-source Llama 3.1 model, including Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF). This method enables the AI to learn from human preferences, allowing the model to provide more natural and contextually appropriate responses. Additionally, the model’s ability to address complex queries without extra prompts or special markers sets it apart from others.

However, like any model, Llama-3.1-Nemotron-70B-Instruct has its limitations. According to Nvidia, the model has not been fine-tuned for specialized fields where accuracy is crucial, such as mathematics or legal reasoning. It’s worth noting that the model is accessible not only on Hugging Face but also through build.nvidia.com.

As one of the top 11 chip manufacturers in the world, Nvidia has been on a journey to become the most valuable company in the world, which we have previously discussed. The release of this model represents a significant milestone for the company. As you may know, Nvidia manufactures graphics processors for personal computers and enterprise servers. However, as AI companies began revolutionizing the market last year, Nvidia’s prominence also increased. The company currently controls 70% to 95% of the AI chip market. The launch of its own AI models could further strengthen its position in the market.
