In recent weeks, OpenAI raised $6.6 billion in funding, valuing the company at $157 billion. In a recent post, the company announced new office openings in several cities, including New York, Seattle, Paris, Brussels, and Singapore, as part of its global expansion efforts. Until now, the company had offices in San Francisco, London, Dublin, and Tokyo.

According to the company’s announcement, CEO Oliver Jay will oversee international operations. Jay will facilitate global expansion from Singapore. As reported by OpenAI, the company has begun establishing a team in Singapore, which will support clients and partners in the Asia-Pacific region. The Singapore office, which is currently hiring engineers, is expected to open by the end of this year. It is worth noting that OpenAI launched its Tokyo office in April. The Singapore office will be OpenAI’s second office in Asia.

OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman highlighted Singapore’s leadership position in the field of artificial intelligence. According to OpenAI, Singaporeans rank among the highest per capita users of ChatGPT worldwide. The data indicates that the number of weekly active users in Singapore has doubled since the beginning of the year.

In addition to the new office, the company has entered into a partnership with AI Singapore, a national program aimed at strengthening its position in Southeast Asia. AI Singapore, which supports local companies and research organizations in leveraging AI, was launched in 2017 by the National Research Foundation (NRF). The partnership aims to increase accessibility to artificial intelligence.

Recently, the company has been in the news due to high-profile resignations, including CTO Mira Murati and Tim Brooks, one of the co-chairs of Sora. It remains to be seen whether the upcoming hires as part of their expansion will help the company achieve new stability.
