At least three chairs have changed hands among analysts from major banks covering the energy sector.

The most recent is the hiring of João Pimentel by Citi. Pimentel, who had been with BTG for 14 years and was a partner at the bank, will now lead the coverage of utilities at the American bank.

The chair had been left vacant with the departure of Antônio Junqueira, who was the head of equity research at Citi and also looked after the coverage of utilities.

Junqueira was hired by BTG to lead the coverage of the electric sector at the bank, starting to publish next month.

The hiring is a homecoming for Junqueira, who previously worked for 13 years at BTG, from 2005 to 2018.

BTG has also just hired Luiz Carvalho – who covered the oil and gas sector at UBS BB and was the head of research – to cover the same industry. Currently, the analyst covering the sector at BTG is Pedro Soares, who is expected to continue the coverage, reporting to Carvalho.

Carvalho had been at the Swiss bank for eight years. Tasso Vasconcellos, who worked with Carvalho, took over the coverage, but UBS BB is already in talks for a new senior hiring.

Matheus Enfeidt is responsible for the agribusiness coverage, which was also under Carvalho’s supervision.

As for the equity research area of Citi, it is now under the leadership of André Mazini, who has been with the bank since 2018 and is also responsible for the real estate and capital goods sector.
